About the Teel Institute The Teel Institute is a 501c3 located in Prairie Village, Kansas. Founded in 1995, the Institute’s mission is to foster psychological health, emotional well-being, capability and character in both children and adults. The Institute develops products and services to prevent violence, bullying, underachievement, and other inappropriate behaviors. The Teel Institute has developed The ESSENTIAL Curriculum™, a variety of classroom-based programs that have been evaluated for effectiveness in controlled studies with more than 2,000 students. Results to date indicate that the program is highly effective in:
- Decreasing violent and inappropriate behaviors requiring disciplinary action in schools;
- Increasing pro-social behaviors such as empathy, respect, responsibility, self-discipline, and goal-setting;
- Building, sustaining and enhancing genuine self-esteem.
The Teel Institute also develops customized trainings and provides training materials for teachers, parents, counselors, and youth-serving professionals in the areas of classroom management, managing children’s behavior, school discipline, achievement, development of character, self-esteem, and achievement. Finally, the Institute provides research and evaluation services for other organizations, including funders and grantmakers.
