The FOURTH GRADE CURRICULUM PACKAGE includes the teacher’s manual, student workbooks, and the necessary supplies and materials to successfully teach the Essential Curriculum to a classroom of fourth grade students. The general theme at Grade 4 is Automobile Racing. Each chapter emphasizes a type of auto race—Drag Racing, Road Tract Racing, Oval Tract Racing, Road Rally and Indy 500. The students are given the facts about these different types of races and the opportunity for competitive games about racing. As an outcome of the instructional activities, students grow in their understanding of how self-esteem is developed and maintained. Students work together in teams to master the Four Principles of Self-Esteem and the principles, concepts and skills of the Essential Curriculum. Students receive collectible vehicles at various times during the year as a reward for their efforts to master the behaviors set forth by the Essential Curriculum. At the end of the road rally competition, students are given a prized collectible match box car as a symbolic reward for their enthusiastic participation and effort.
